Ceremonies
My first performed wedding ceremony was for a dear friend of mine; an intimate celebration under a coppery-leaved canopy of October trees at Inniswood gardens in Westerville, OH. The grooms were excitedly nervous and sincere, and their family, earnest and loving. I made sure the small gathering enabled everyone there to play a part in the ceremony. As well as them committing to each other, we talked about our commitment to them and each other, too, as their support team, and their confidants, responsibly through their marriage. I used the Earth elements as metaphor to demonstrate our necessity and collaboration. It was tender and solemn...and timely: a rainstorm filled the sky as we were departing the park!
Then in November, I performed a wedding for a couple who felt like friends to me--Amanda and Anthony. (I wrote about her on my "serendipity" page) Ironically, but after all our coincidences, not surprisingly, she had incorporated the Earth elements into her ceremony, too! Ed was there to support me for this one also and we had a great time at the reception where we met a lovely couple and conversed for quite awhile with a former student of mine who was a friend of the bride!
Not a bad way to serve others in the secular community!
